Web Hosting Pitfalls To Avoid At All Costs
By admin | November 9, 2011
Finding a good web hosting company can be a killer task even when there are admittedly thousands of them out there that you can choose from. It just so happens that for every thousand that you find, at least 20 of those are web hosting companies that are not at all completely honest with their customers. If it just happens that this is your first time to deal with web hosting companies, there are some things that you need to know about so that you protect yourself against the shady web hosting companies and their even shadier deals.
The first thing that should send up warning signs is when you spot a company that offers next to no trial period. The better companies out there are more than happy to give you a 30 day trial so why shouldn’t these guys offer you a trial? Unless of course, they have something to hide from you in which case they will get you to sign up so that they can steal your money. Make extra sure that you read up on their return policy because you do not want to sign anything that will give you a big headache in the end should you decide that you do not like what they have to offer.
Next thing that is high up on the list is the kind of software that they use. If they use an older version of web application software and refuse to do any upgrades, then you should not do business with them as you will then leave your web site open to attacks from hackers.
Third on this list is the price. Sure, nothing can be better than finding a cheap web hosting deal but how cheap is it really if you find out that you have to pay a huge price to get a domain name or even just to get some scripts? That is in no way a good deal so this is another reason why you must read through the contract before you sign up with a web hosting company.
Next thing on the list is perhaps the most important and the most telling. Check how they are when it comes to customer support. You may not necessarily need their help all the time but it would be nice to actually get to talk to someone on the phone or through email should it happen that something goes wrong with your site.
