Network Information Center (Abk. NIC) are responsible for the assignment of Domains within the Internet. For each TLD there is its own NIC, which has own in each case assignment guidelines. NICs are perfectly independent.

NIC of examples of gTLD (towards Eric Top level Domain):

• InterNIC (for .com, .net, .org)
• Afilias Limited (for .info)

NIC of examples of ccTLD (country code Top level Domain):

• DENIC (for .de)
• SWITCH (for .ch)
• nic.at (.at for)
• AFNIC (for .fr)
