Back to "Domain Name System"EURid (an acronym for European Registry OF Internet Domain Names) is the Non profit organization with seat, responsible for the Top level Domain .eu (dotEU), in in accordance with with Brussels/Belgium. The establishment of a society for the administration .eu of the Top level Domain was specified in the European Union regulation 733/2002.
EURid became of the European commission to 22. May 2003 for the setting up and the enterprise .eu of the Registry system legitimizes. EURid is a union of the Belgian, Italian and Swedish ccTLD Registries DNS, IIT-CNR and NIC-SE.
The European Union regulation 733/2002 contains an exact definition of the field of application of the consortium responsible for the Top level Domain .eu, EURid. EURid appoints official.eu Registrierstellen, which receive permission for driving.eu Domainnamen out.
Starting from 7 December 2005 it was owners of a national, a European or an international mark with seat in an European Union state possible identical-ends Domain names to announce (Sunrise phase 1). On 7 February 2006 2 registration possibilities came of further rights privileged by owners in addition in the so-called Sunrise phase (e.g. Company name, artist name etc.). Since 7 April 2006 it is possible for everyone to register.eu domains (Landrush phase). In all phases it applies however that the Registrant must exhibit an address within the European union.
