By Domainlevel the hierarchy levels of the Domain Name of system (DNS) are understood.
Each Domain name of a computer in the Internet consists of several parts (Domainlevels), which are by points from each other separated. It may consist of maximally 24 letters. Domain names from right to left are read, whereby the highest level in the DNS hierarchy represents the so-called root Domain, from which all other Domain names are derived. The complete name (including root Domain) for Wikipedia is "wikipedia.org.".
Below the root Domain the Top follows level Domains (TLD). They stand in the Domain name seen from right in the first place, since mostly without the representation of the point, which marks the root Domain, one does.
Top level Domains indicate either to the country, in which the Domain name was registered (.de for Germany, .ch for Switzerland, e.g. .at .li for Liechtenstein, .be for Belgium) for Austria, a state group (e.g. .eu for the European union) or a range of the practical life (e.g. .org for not-commercial organizations or .com for commercial enterprises).
With country-specific Top level Domains stands in some countries to the left of the TLD still another part, which indicates the range, in that the name owner is active (.co commercial, .ac academic offerers designate). Finally the name part freely selectable of each offerer follows. That links part completely indicates mostly the kind of the service, which is addressed (e.g. http://www for an offer in the World Wide Web in the hypertext format, an economically particularly important subrange of the Internets).
