The English term Domaingrabbing designates the occasionally abusive registration of a larger number of Domains.

Contrary to the Cybersquatting (Cyberbesetzen), with that company names, mark and/or product name admitted with priority (e.g. ibm.com) as Domains to be registered and the respective right owner for the purchase be offered, is limited Domaingrabbing to the registration of generic terms. Thus for example words of the daily use in all conceivable forms and TLD are registered (e.g. e-haarfhn.net, electronic etc.).

A goal is it to sell or suggest by their active use visitors either this Domains profitably to be a web page to a certain topic or term although the content has to do few with the term used as Domainnamen. Thus frequently pseudo search machines are only operated, in order the inserted advertising on the left of to marked out, without offering the advantages of genuine search machines.

This method is particularly popular with dial he offerers, who use the admittingness of a Domain and register a similarly written Domain for itself, the so-called Typosquatting.

A demarcation between Domaingrabbing (in the sense of "“hamsters"” for most different purposes) and Domainhandel (registration of Domains on supply for sales) is hardly possible - both designates the registration of Domains in a larger number than for direct own use. This is completely legally and legitimately, by German iurisdiction of the supreme court as normal economic manipulation (no "“bath faith"” - unfair intention as with injury of strange on behalf of or trademark laws - see Cybersquatting) recognized and also not automatically immoral. Domains are long economic goods like many other material or immaterial goods also. Trade is also at numerous other goods a recognized occupation and is only somewhat more lucrative with scarceness of the offer and/or high demand.
